About the Foundation
The Chicago Area Golf Swing Club Scholarship Foundation is the educational initiative begun in 1963 by the Chicago area unit of the United Voluntary Services (UVS). It is incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and is governed by its own executive committee. The Foundation is supported primarily by contributions from local country clubs, individuals, and the proceeds from the Golf Swing Clubís annual raffle ticket sale.
Scholarships are awarded based on need, community activities, basic scholastic achievement, and personal goals. Students are selected by the Review Board and the Foundation President. Members of the Review Board are business professionals from the community with no affiliations to the Foundation or the Veteranís Administration.
The Foundation presents two special awards each year: the Olive Meindl Memorial Award, which honors the memory of the Golf Swing Clubís first leader and her tireless devotion to providing services and programs to veterans; and, the UVS Swing Club Award, which acknowledges outstanding students with financial need.
